Family Integration • Since the institution is exclusively for long-term patients (not acute) the residence of patients is indefinite. • If a patient has a caring relative or friend, then upon possible discharge they are given to such person. But the majority are either indigent or of families unable to assist after discharge. *Often the family is not able to continue medications, so that the patient returns to the hospice in a disturbed condition. • There could be about 20 discharges during the year – but many return – as explained above. FOLLOW-UP VISITS - During the visits of the U.S.T. Psychiatrists, discharged patients are brought to the Hospice for follow-up.
